The trade deadline might have come and gone, but rumours surrounding around Boston Bruins netminder haven’t quieted down. At the start of the month, the Bruins reportedly came awfully close to trading veteran goaltender Linus Ullmark at the National Hockey League’s trade deadline, with rumors suggesting that the only reason the trade failed to go through was due to Ullmark using his trade protection to block the deal to the Los Angeles Kings.

There are now rumours that more trade attempts may occur in the summer, even though some fans doubt the Bruins will look to separate the goaltending duo of Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman, however, Jesse Granger of The Athletic believes a quiet trade deadline might prompt monster deals to take place in the offseason, including one involving Ullmark. After all Swayman is a restricted free agent due for a sizable raise from his current cap hit of $3.475 million with the feeling that he will get an extension in Boston. Which could be exactly why Ullmark gets moved:

“Both goalies have been outstanding this season, but Swayman is five years younger and has been drafted and developed within the Bruins organization. It’s possible they keep both, but it would mean dedicating a major chunk of the salary cap to one position. The return for the 2023 Vezina Trophy winner in a trade could be too tempting to pass up.”

The rumoured blocked trade that reportedly took place on Deadline Day surely taught the Bruins a lesson. Ullmark’s contract comes loaded with a 16 team no-trade list and he will have an opportunity to submit a new list of 16 teams prior to next season.

The knowledge that he has gained about potentially being traded leading up to the deadline will no doubt impact which teams Ullmark adds to his list next season, which could further complicate things for the Bruins if they still plan on moving him in a monster deal.

Let’s see if Boston chooses to hold on to its amazing goaltending duo, or if Ullmark finallt gets moved.
