It’s been said more than once that Patrick Kane will likely be moved by the Chicago Blackhawks ahead of the trade deadline on March, 3rd 2023. Pierre LeBrun has now revealed how Kane’s camp and GM Kyle Davidson have put a plan in motion to get set on a potential trade.

According to the insider, the Blackhawks and the star forward will sit down again in January to discuss a trade and where things stand for Kane. It is likely that Kane will have a better idea of the playoff picture and which contenders could be top destinations for him

With the 2022-23 just underway, Kane has been linked to several contenders, with the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres leading the trade chatter. Earlier this week, LeBrun indicated that the New York Islanders could also compete for Kane’s services.

The trade watch will certainly intensify as we get closer to the trade deadline, and contenders will need to work on their budget in order to afford Kane under the cap. We all feel that Kane’s $10.5-million salary-cap hit will be difficult to move unless the Blackhawks retain half. Who knows if an interested party will need to get a third team involved to spread the remaining cap hit around?

Kane also holds the bigger end of the stick with his no-movement clause and has apparently informed GM Davidson that he will NOT accept a trade to the Leafs.

Maybe the meeting in January will clarify things for Kane, especially if Toronto is looking strong and like the top contender for the Stanley Cup.

Cannot wait to see what gets done in this meeting halfway through the season.
