Despite the Canucks placement in the standings, there appear to be some glaring holes on the roster that need to be filled should the team hope for a playoff push. One order of business that GM Jim Benning has been trying to push through is their need for size and speed at winger. The loss of Kevin Bieksa leaves an enormous hole on D as well. Despite Trevor Linden claiming he won’t sacrifice the clubs future for immediate help, a trade can be made should it improve the team down the stretch. The Vancouver Province’s Jason Botchford believes it’s time for the Canucks to make a trade if they want to clinch a playoff spot. Zack Kassian's name has begun dropping everywhere regarding a possible trade. The frontrunners appear to be the Boston Bruins, as they could use a winger to play alongside David Krejci and Milan Lucic. The Canucks would most likely ask for a Matt Bartkowski to bolster the blueline. There is only one problem, the Canucks are extremely wary in regards to Kassian. They would hate to give up on a player just to have him flourish elsewhere. The last thing they want is another Cam Neely disaster. The Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch recently reported goalies Eddie Lack and Jacob Markstrom could, along with Kassian, be used as trade chips. Teams in need of goaltending would definitely look in Vancouver's direction for help. One thing is certain, the Canucks need to make a move and soon.
