The rumors surrounding a potential return to the National Hockey League for Kontinental Hockey League superstar Ilya Kovalchuk have been floating around since the end of the regular season, but now that have taken a very surprising turn.
Sportsnet insider John Shannon reported on Monday that none other than John Davidson informed him that the Columbus Blue Jackets have had talks with Kovalchuk's agent, and furthermore that while things are still preliminary, it sounds like there is interest.
Davidson is the president of hockey operations for the Columbus Blue Jackets, so you couldn't ask for a better source when it comes to such a huge trade rumor.
A team that was previously nowhere even near the radar as a potential landing spot for Kovalchuk may have just become the favorite to acquire the Russian superstar.
