TRADE: Team has swapped playmaking center for promising defenseman.

Two Canadian teams have struck a deal that could be mutually beneficial for both sides.

The Montreal Canadiens have traded center David Desharnais to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Brandon Davidson both teams announced. The deal was a straight one-for-one swap and compliment both teams nicely.

Desharnais, 30, is a small but playmaking centerman with veteran experience, having been to the playoffs multiple times with the Blue-Blanc-Rouge. Davidson, 25, is a stay at home D-man in only his second full season in the NHL. Davidson shows promising skills and Desharnais could be a great mentor to the Oilers' young stars such as Connor McDavid.

The Habs also acquire some added depth on the blueline, which they seem on solidifying for the future.

One of the simpler deals of the day, but a decent trade nonetheless.
