Trade: The Oilers and Canucks have made a minor trade.

The Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks have agreed on a very minor trade on Wednesday.

According to a report from TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger the Oilers have traded the rights to 26 year old defenseman Philip Larsen who is currently playing for Jokerit Helsinki of the Kontinental Hockey League, and in exchange will receive a 5th round draft pick from the Vancouver Canucks.

It's unclear if the Canucks believe that Larsen could potentially make a return, he is two years removed from his last stint in the National Hockey League, but he has played well for Jokerit thus far. In 54 games this season Larsen has 12 goals 26 assists and a plus minus rating of 9, certainly respectable stats for a defenseman.

As for the Oilers, they likely have given up on Larsen, and felt a 5th round pick could provide more value in the long term than keeping Larsen's rights.

Update: According to Bob McKenzie the Canucks intend to sign Larsen and he will join their NHL roster.
