The first period of the game between the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators was the scene of a scary incident on Friday night.

Defenseman Travis Hamonic stood in front of Rangers’ forward Vitali Kravtsov and took the puck to his throat as he attempted to block the Russian player. The blocked shot ride up on him, catching hard in the throat.

Kravtsov didn’t notice Hamonic falling to the ice and skated to a worried teammate goalie Cam Talbot. He scored his first of the season.

However, the celebrations were subdued seeing that trainers rushed to Hamonic, who was down in considerable pain on the ice.

Here’s the scary scene:

Hamonic left the ice with the help of a trainer and not many insiders expect him to return to the game.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for Hamonic.

UPDATE: Hamonic is back on the bench at the start of the second period. What a warrior!
