Does this bode well?

One key matter of business that Anaheim Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek has to take care of before next season is the status of young forward Trevor Zegras, one of the most exciting and offensively gifted players who calls the West Coast his NHL home.

He's coming off back to back seasons in which he reached the 23 goal and 60 point plateau, and also just wrapped up his entry level contract. For whatever reason, there's been no serious progress on a new contract that would keep him in Anaheim for the long haul.

And for Ducks fans looking to feel better about an imminent deal, Zegras' latest words didn't exactly put their minds at ease, as he said the situation is "up in the air" and out of his control.

"I feel like it's all kind of up in the air," Zegras added. "Obviously, I'd love to get back to play as my teammates get back but that's kind of out of my control at the moment. I've got a pretty good setup here in terms of working out and skating. Wherever we are with the contract, I know I'll be doing good stuff to help me get ready for the season."

"Hopefully we get something done soon," Zegras continued. "I do miss California and my teammates, so it would be nice to get back there. … It's kind of out of my control. Obviously, this is why you have people in place to handle this type of stuff.”

Will the two sides agree on a deal soon? Training Camp is just over a month away now!
