Although fans in Anaheim got to see Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras showcase his skills on the ice last season, Zegras truly reached star level status in the National Hockey League this season when a goal he set up for teammate Sonny Milano against the Buffalo Sabres went viral in the early stages of the season. In that case, Zegras used a similar technique to pick the puck up off the ice and then lobbed it to Milano who proceeded to knock the puck out of mid air and into the net.
Zegras would wow fans again in January of 2022 when the Ducks faced off against the Montreal Canadiens. This time Zegras pulled off a move that has come to be known in the hockey world as "The Michigan", a lacrosse-style goal that involves him picking the puck up off of the ice, much like he did when setting up Sonny Milano for a goal, only this time around he put the puck in the net himself.
Unfortunately for Zegras and the Ducks there were no fans in attendance during that game thanks to the restrictions surrounding the pandemic, but on Friday night Zegras once again pulled off the move and this time he did so in front of a live audience. Zegras and the Ducks were dominating the Arizona Coyotes in the early going of this one, up 2 - 0 before the midway point of the first period, and it was perhaps for that reason that Zegras felt a little more free with the puck.
Just after trying to score a goal by firing off a shot from between his legs, Zegras pounced on the rebound while skating around the Coyotes net. He would pick the rebound up off of the ice and place the puck on the blade of his stick before wrapping his stick around both the Coyotes net and the body of Ducks teammate Sonny Milano to send the puck into the top corner of the Coyotes net for a goal.
His career is only beginning at 21 years old and I expect we are in store for a lot more highlights in the future courtesy of Trevor Zegras.
