Trial date set for Team Canada 2018 World Junior players
The trial is expected to last 8 weeks.
The trial for five players on Team Canada's 2018 World Junior hockey team has been set for April 22, 2025.
The Superior Court jury trial is set for London, Ont., and is expected to take eight weeks. Judge Bruce Thomas, who has presided over most of the pre-trial hearings for the case, determined the trial date earlier today after rejected an alternative trial date of September, 2025.
Charged with one count each of sexual assault are former NHLers Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Carter Hart and Alex Formenton. Michael McLeod has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, including one relating to aiding someone else in the offence.
Each player is an unrestricted free agent and failed to generate any interest from NHL teams this past offseason. Both Dube and McLeod signed contracts in the KHL, but McLeod is no longer with his team and has reportedly returned home to Canada.
Pre-trial motions are scheduled to begin on November 25th.
