The Detroit Red Wings hosted their final regular season home opener at the Joe Louis Arena last night, and they did it in style.

With a red carpet event held prior to the start of the opening ceremonies in which players were seen exiting vehicles and arriving at the Arena, it was clear that the organization had every intention of making last night count, especially for its faithful fans.

The legendary Gordie “Mr. Hockey” Howe passed away on June 10th, 2016, and his tragic loss would shake the entire hockey community. A revolutionary, Howe changed the way the game would be played and taught legends such as Wayne Gretzky to stay humble and be nice to other.

He touched the lives of many across generations, and so it was only fitting that Mr. Hockey be paid a tribute in a way that only the Detroit Red Wings know how.
