Tristan Jarry doesn't hold back after an ugly loss on Saturday.
The Edmonton Oilers had hoped that they had solved their goaltending issues earlier this season when they dealt longtime goaltender Stuart Skinner to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for goaltender Tristan Jarry.
Unfortunately for the Oilers the performances from Jarry have been eerily similar to what Skinner was delivering prior to the trade, with Jarry's numbers actually somewhat worse than Skinner's since the deal. Since the trade, Jarry has a 3.59 goals against average and a .873 save percentage over 10 games while Skinner has a 2.53 goals against average and a .895 save percentage over 12 games.
So what if the problem really was never the goaltending? Tristan Jarry may think so judging by recent comments he made following an ugly 7-2 loss for the Oilers at the hands of the Minnesota Wild.
"It's tough," said Jarry after the loss. "I think the chances that we are giving up, some of the shots, they're tough. A lot of Grade As, a lot of breakdowns, it's tough to really think about your game at this point. I think it's the whole team."
Jarry felt his team got some back luck during the course of the game but emphasized that things needed to be tighter defensively across the entire team.
"To be on that side we have to tighten up and eliminate some chances," said Jarry.
Jarry recognizes that his team plays a more offensive focused style of play but added that he thinks it's important for his team to manage the puck well given how they like to play.
"When we're taking some of those chances they come back at us, so it's tough," said Jarry. "I think we just have to make sure we are managing the puck a little bit better."
