Troubling end of season update on Alex Pietrangelo.
Big concerns around Pietrangelo's future following update from NHL insider.
The Vegas Golden Knights may have some serious issues to tackle over the summer after recent comments from a National Hockey League insider raised concerns about the future and health of defenseman Alex Pietrangelo.
On Saturday, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the injuries Pietrangelo was dealing with towards the end of this current NHL season may very well carry into next season as well. Friedman revealed that, when looking into the potential roster for Canada's Olympic team next season, he received some concerning updates regarding Pietrangelo's status.
"Someone indicated to me that he might not be available," revealed Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "I don't have any confirmation on that yet."
The more Friedman said on the topic, the more it seemed like there are real concerns about Pietrangelo moving forward.
"At this time of year team's are trying to figure out what their rosters might look like for next year and are there any injury concerns, so we will see what happens with Pietrangelo," added Friedman.
The season has been over for weeks now for the Vegas Golden Knights but there still seems to be a great deal of uncertainty around Pietrangelo despite that fact.
"I hope he's healthy, I hope he's good enough to go, but it sounds like there is at least the possibility that they are trying to figure out what his health will be like for the start of next season," revealed Friedman.
The insider's next words seemed very ominous.
"He's one of my favorite players.... I'm gonna hate it when he's not around, I'll say that much," said Friedman.
The loss of Pietrangelo would be a huge blow to both the Golden Knights and Team Canada ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, and it sounds like we may not get any definitive answers regarding Pietrangelo's future for some time.
