Trump praises Penguins, calls them a “great team”

The President had kind words for the Stanley Cup champions this past weekend.

With the Pittsburgh Penguins finally addressing the “Will they or won’t they” questions surrounding their intentions to visit the White House with the Stanley Cup later this season, President Donald Trump took to social media to applaud their decision. The Penguins, of course, accepted Trump’s invitation and will once again bring the Stanley Cup to the Oval Office, just as they did in 2009 when George W. Bush was in office and in 2016 when Barack Obama was in office.

Trump, it seems, couldn’t be happier with the news:

The Penguins’ decision is being met with controversy and opinion online, which is ironic as the decision seemed to be made mostly as a way to avoid controversy. "I still feel like we look at it as an opportunity,” said Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. “We respect the office of the White House,” he added.

What do you think? Are the Penguins making a mistake here? Or, is everything just so highly politicized these days that they’re in a “damned if they do, damned if they don’t” type situation?
