It came as a surprise last week when the New York Islanders decided to part ways with legendary head coach Barry Trotz. And it didn’t take long to hear chatter about rival teams already chasing the head coach to get him to sign and lead the way behind their bench.

Trotz ranks third all-time in wins among NHL coaches, and it was almost evident that the Winnipeg Jets were going to try and land him. Trotz’s Manitoba roots could be a reason to convince the talented head coach to take the job with Winnipeg and on Tuesday, he was in the Peg for an interview. He however left without a deal.

The Jets aren’t the only one trying to get Trotz for the next season. It has now been reported by sources that the Philadelphia Flyers have scheduled Trotz for an interview on Friday. The same sources indicated that Trotz is the Flyers’ first choice to be their next coach.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman pointed out how Philadelphia was targeting Trotz as their next head coach in his latest 32 Thoughts column.

The Flyers are ready to pay up for Trotz even though they still owe former coach Alain Vigneault $10 million to not be behind the bench any longer.

That’s because Trotz is definitely worth it, he who went to the Islanders after leading the Washington Capitals to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2018. Prior to coaching in Washington, Trotz was the inaugural coach of the Nashville Predators, a team he managed for 15 seasons.

The tug of war is taking place between the Jets and the Flyers are the moment, but we could see the Vegas Golden Knights getting into the action as well. Vegas is looking for a coach after firing Peter DeBoer following a disappointing season in which they missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

Where will Trotz go next?
