Two Bruins are out for the remainder of the season.

Bruins take some hits.

The Boston Bruins rallied after a Game 1 loss in their first round series against the Washington Capitals in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs and rattled off a very impressive 4 straight wins to advance to the next round. It was a great effort from the Bruins but unfortunately despite their gutsy performance the Bruins will have to continue in the playoffs without at least two members of their roster.

On Monday Bruins general manager Don Sweeney confirmed that both forward Ondrej Kase and defenseman Steven Kampfer would not be available for the remainder of the playoffs, effectively confirming that their season had come to an end.

Although Kase has no doubt been a sore point for many fans in Boston when you take a step back and put yourself in the man's shoes it is very difficult not to feel sorry for him. He was out of action for months only to come back for what felt like the blink of an eye and now his season is over entirely. There's no doubt in my mind that Kase battled hard to try and get back into the lineup and to come so close and have it be all for nothing has to feel terrible for the veteran forward.

In the case of Steven Kampfer it sounds like he suffered a serious injury to his arm, although it is still not entirely clear when he suffered that injury or what type of injury it is exactly. I feel comfortable describing it as a relatively serious injury however given that Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty is now reporting that Kampfer has already had surgery to repair the damage to that arm, a procedure that has also brought his season to a close.

Kampfer was a much bigger contributor for the Bruins this season than Kase and as a result his loss will probably have a bigger impact on the team moving forward. He only appeared in 20 games over the course of the regular season but his ability to step in and fill whatever void was left open on the blue line made him a very valuable piece of the Bruins depth. Over those 20 regular season games he had 2 goals and 3 assists, finishing with a plus minus rating of +3 on the season.
