5 players available on waivers today including 2 former first round picks.
There is a great deal of waiver activity on the last Sunday ahead of the National Hockey League's trade deadline with a total of 5 players being placed on waivers.
The Edmonton Oilers are the only team to waive multiple players today with veteran forward Andrew Mangiapane and rookie defenseman Alex Regula both now up for grabs. The Oilers are expected to be active ahead of the NHL's trade deadline and this may very well be a pair of moves designed to free up some cap space ahead of some bigger moves down the line.
Mangiapane has appeared in 52 games for the Oilers this season and has 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 total points and is in the first year of a 2 year deal that carries an average annual value and cap hit of $3.6 million.
Regula appeared in just 29 games for the Oilers this season with no goals and 3 assists for 3 total points, and he is also in the first year of a 2 year deal although his cap hit comes in at just $775,000.
The Canucks have waived defenseman Guillaume Brisebois who did not appear in a game for them this season and he is likely headed back down to the american Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks. Brisebois carries a cap hit of just $775,000 on a 1 year deal.
The St. Louis Blues have waived former first round pick Robby Fabbri with injuries still being the big story surrounding Fabbri's NHL career. He appeared in just 15 games for the Blues this season with 1 goal and 3 assists to his name for a total of 4 points. If a team is looking to game on Fabbri staying healthy he carries a cap hit of just $775,000 on a 1 year deal.
Last but not least the Florida Panthers have waived former first round pick Luke Kunin on Sunday. Kunin has appeared in 44 games for the Panthers this season and has 2 goals and 2 assists for a total of 4 points. Like Fabbri and Brisebois, Kunin is currently on a 1 year deal with a cap hit of just $775,000 per season.
Do you think any of these players will be claimed by a rival team? Let me know which ones in the comments.
