Hurricane Ian rapidly intensified off Florida’s southwest coast Wednesday morning and is now a Category 4 hurricane as it approaches the coast. This prompted the National Hockey League to postpone tonight’s preseason game between the visiting Carolina Hurricanes and the Lightning in Tampa Bay.

The Lightning also announced that the game against the Nashville Predators on Thursday will be postponed as well due to hurricane Ian.

The Canes are scheduled to play the Florida Panthers on Thursday. No details about that game had been shared Wednesday morning. Last night in Raleigh, the Hurricanes won 5-1 over the Lightning who won't return home for now.

On top of that, the Bolts’ training camp has temporarily been moved to Nashville until further notice.

Per the weather reports, Hurricane Ian is forecast to make landfall Wednesday afternoon near Fort Myers, delivering more than 12 inches of rain and high storm surge.

Tickets for postponed games will be honored for the rescheduled dates, which will be announced at a later time, according to the NHL.

More information will be given on the coming preseasons as more could be postponed or even canceled due to severe and dangerous weather conditions.

We will keep you posted.
