There has been an early trade on Saturday morning in the National Hockey League, one in which a pair of goaltenders will be on the move.

In an official announcement, the Nashville Predators have revealed that they have acquired both goaltender Justus Annunen as well as a 6th round draft selection at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for veteran backup goaltender Scott Wedgewood.

Wedgewood recently signed with the Predators this summer on a 2 year deal, one that carries an average annual value and salary cap hit of $1.5 million per season, and appeared in just 5 games for them this season prior to the trade. Over those 5 games he recorded a 3.69 goals against average and a .828 save percentage. Wedgewood recorded just a single win over those 5 apperances

Justus Annunen, the other goalie in this deal, is also currently in the first year of a 2 year deal but comes in at a much lower cap hit and average annual value of just $837,500 per season. Annunen appeared in 11 games for the Avalanche this season and recorded a 3.23 goals against average and a .872 save percentage on his way to a record of 6 wins and 4 losses.

This of course won't be the biggest trade in the world and is unlikely to drastically impact the fortunes of either team, but it will be interesting to see if this is just a relatively minor goalie swap or if either team has something more planned coming off the heels of the trade this morning.

Stay tuned for more.
