Two National Hockey League general managers were spotted scouting two rival teams late last week.

In his most recent 30 Thoughts piece Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that both the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning were on hand to scout the Ducks.

From Friedman:

Both Joe Sakic and Steve Yzerman watching Anaheim play at Florida. The Ducks were in Tampa the following night but their presence makes a ton of sense. Both men are looking for defence. Anaheim’s got a surplus and it’s been believed for a while now GM Bob Murray will trade one for a forward. Both the Avalanche and Lightning have that.

Friedman admits that the difficult part her is to pin down exactly which player teams are targeting on the Ducks roster. He believes that the Lightning are looking for a top four NHL defenseman, while the Avalanche on the other hand are more interested in youth and term as they look towards the future.

One name that has circulated as of late has been that of Sam Vatanen, surprising since the Ducks signed him to a four-year-deal just this summer. Earlier in the season it was veteran Cam Fowler who was the name pundits expected to be shipped out of Anaheim.
