Two NHL players still in danger of being offer sheeted this summer.

The Philadelphia Flyers tossed a grenade into the National Hockey League's salary structure this summer when they shocked the Anaheim Ducks by signing star forward Leo Carlsson to an offer sheet worth a staggering $90 million over just 5 years.

Teams around the NHL have already witnessed the kind of damage that offer sheet has done to the Ducks salary cap structure, but despite that there are still a pair of teams around the league that have left themselves vulnerable to potential offer sheets from rival teams. Today I'll be looking at the 2 players who make the most sense as realistic targets for an offer sheet this summer.

#1 Adam Fantilli - Columbus Blue Jackets

The comparisons between Fantilli and Carlsson are so similar that Fantilli is easily the most obvious target. Both men were drafted at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft with Carlsson going at #2 and Fantilli #3, both men are 21 years old, both men play center, Carlsson has played 201 career games to Fantilli's 213 and Carlsson has 141 career points compared to 140 for Fantilli.

Fantilli was already projected to earn a contract in the double digits, but after Carlsson's ridiculous offer sheet he is even more likely to eclipse an average annual value (AAV) of $10 million per season.

Add to that a summer of chaos in Columbus with talk of a potential trade involving star defenseman Zach Werenski earlier this summer and now talk of another trade around fellow Blue Jackets restricted free agent Kirill Marchenko and Fantilli seems like arguably the best candidate for an offer sheet this summer.

#2 Simon Edvinsson - Detroit Red Wings.

At 6'6 and 222lbs the big Swedish defenseman is the kind of player that NHL general managers dream about adding to their rosters. Those types of players just don't come along very often and with Edvinsson still unsigned he is eligible for an offer sheet.

Edvinsson was projected by most to land at an AAV of somewhere around $9 million per season coming into the summer but the recent contracts handed out around the NHL could see that number go even higher.

The Red Wings are another team that has experienced a ton of turmoil this summer with a trade request from captain Dylan Larkin, the departure of veteran forward Patrick Kane, and the ousting of Steve Yzerman as the team's general manager. That added uncertainty in their front office could make them a vulnerable target for an offer sheet.
