Whoa! A crackdown while players are at the Olympics?
This just in, The AHL has suspended Chicago Blackhawks prospect goalie Stanislav Berezhnoy and Seattle Kraken prospect forward David Goyette 20 games each for violating the terms of the AHL/PHPA Performance Enhancing Substance Program.
A statement from Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson:
“We were informed last week that Stanislav tested positive for a prohibited substance under the AHL/PHPA’s Performance Enhancing Substance Program. While Stanislav did not knowingly take a prohibited substance, we believe his positive test is a result of a supplement he was consuming at the time. Stanislav has taken full responsibility for the situation and the organization praises him for the maturity and accountability he has shown. The Blackhawks organization fully supports Stanislav and knows he will use this as an opportunity to grow as he continues his development.”
And a statement from Kraken GM Jason Botterill:
As you can read above, both players maintain that they took any banned substances unknowingly and will take this as a learning opportunity. Due to an agreement between the NHL and the AHL, the players are banned from both leagues for 20 games.
