A pair of players are available on waivers in the NHL.
We have had a very exciting start to the 2025-26 National Hockey League season with a lot of surprising results across the league but things have been relatively quiet on the transaction front, as is typically the case this early in the season.
On Monday however we have two players suddenly up for grabs with a pair of NHL teams each placing a player on waivers, with the two teams being the Washington Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The move from the Capitals comes as no surprise after the team announced earlier today that they were bringing back veteran NHL forward Brett Leason on a two-way contract, and it will be Leason who heads to waivers on Monday.
Leason, who was initially selected by the Capitals in the 2nd round (56th overall) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, has not appeared in any NHL games this season and is coming off of a 62 game season with the Anaheim Ducks in 2024-25 in which he had 5 goals and 12 assists for 17 points.
The Lightning on the other hand are waiving forward Mitchell Chaffe after he appered in 7 games for them already this season. Chaffe failed to register a point over those games and had 4 penalty minutes to his name, with an even plus minus rating of 0 on the season.
Both of the players available today have hundreds of games of NHL experience under their respective belts and are known commodities at this point in their hockey careers. All that remains to be seen is whether or not any teams around the league will submit a claim to add either man to their roster.
