Lotsa movement on the NHL waiver wire today.
This just in, the St. Louis Blues have claimed forward Jonatan Berggren off over waivers from the Detroit Red Wings.
Interestingly enough, Red Wings insider Ryan Hana and other analysts reported yesterday that the decision to put Berggren on waivers came about as a request from Berggren himself as he was seeking a fresh start elsewhere in the NHL. He'll now get that opportunity in St. Louis.
The former 2nd round pick (33rd overall) in 2018 has just two goals and six points in 15 games with the Red Wings this season. He put up 12 goals and 24 points in his first real full season with the team last season, but has produced at the AHL level going back for the past three years.
Also picked up off the waiver wire today is defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok, going from the Dallas Stars to the Boston Bruins. The 24 year old Belarusian defenseman has played in just 11 games for the Stars this season and has bounced around from Arizona, Utah, Pittsburgh, Dallas and now Boston in his short NHL career.
A couple other waiver notes from today:
Brossoit will join the Blackhawks now and it's expected that backup Arvid Soderblom will be assigned to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs. If/when Bains clears waivers tomorrow afternoon, he'll be assigned to the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks.
