Plenty of action on the NHL waiver wire today.
This just in, the Seattle Kraken have claimed goaltender Magnus Hellberg off of waivers from the Ottawa Senators.
The two other players from yesterday's waivers Mike Reilly (Boston Bruins) and Nikita Zaitsev (Ottawa Senators) have both cleared and can now be assigned to the AHL.
And if that weren't enough waiver wire news for you, yet another goaltender has been placed on waivers today. The Vegas Golden Knights have waived Lauren Brossoit.
Check it out:
Hellberg, of course, was claimed off of waivers by the Senators from the Kraken earlier this season. So, in effect, he just had a brief work trip in Ottawa before returning back to Seattle. Which is great news because we can finally see him debut these beauties in a game:

Interestingly enough, IF the Kraken were the only team to put in a claim on Hellberg they would be permitted to assign him to the AHL immediately without requiring waivers. This is a special rule that's only in place if a player is returning to a team that lost him earlier in the season on waivers. Kind of a hidden rule that ensures players don't keep going back and forth between teams due to waiver claims.
As for Brossoit, he has yet to play a game for the Golden Knights yet this season due to injury. The Golden Knights have been relying on a tandem of Logan Thompson and Adin Hill which... I'm not gonna lie... has worked out fantastically. This is a team that once boasted Marc Andre Fleury and Robin Lehner between the pipes and now they're putting up fantastic numbers with Thompson and Hill. I can't imagine too many analysts out there would have predicted this outcome.
Brossoit is just 29 years old and he has proven that he can be a capable NHL backup, so it'll be interesting to see if he gets picked up on waivers by this time tomorrow. The Sens, of course, have a spot open after losing Hellberg, so I could see them making a claim on Brossoit. Stay tuned.
