With teams seeking help on the back end, we could get a claim!
On Friday, two players were placed on waivers as the Florida Panthers sent forward Noah Gregor on the wire, and the New Jersey Devils moved defenseman Dennis Cholowski on there.
There is a growing sense that the latter could get claimed prior to tomorrow’s deadline.
The Devils will send Cholowski to AHL Utica, should he pass through waivers, but the first rounder from 2016, could get a closer look by other suitors.
While he has yet to establish himself in the NHL, Cholowski has played 15 games at the NHL level this season, garnering one assist. He has 18 goals and 123 points with a -46 rating in 241 career minor-league games. A change of scenery could be good for the blue liner.
And we all know several teams are looking. He could be an affordable option, as he holds a $775K cap. New Jersey will be left with an open roster spot tomorrow after he is reassigned or claimed.
As for Gregor, after taking part in 24 games with the Panthers this season, he has recorded a goal and two assists and is likely to be assigned back down to the minors.
