Two players on waivers today, including one who was just traded yesterday

Seems like an odd move... any takers?

According to a report from TSN insider Chris Johnston, the New Jersey Devils have placed defenseman Scott Harrington on waivers and the Buffalo Sabres have placed goaltender Michael Houser on waivers.

Harrington, of course, was acquired by the Devils just yesterday from the San Jose Sharks in a blockbuster deal for forward Timo Meier. The 29 year old Harrington has played just 28 games for the Sharks this season, putting up one goal and seven points. He's a classic defensive defenseman, but he's had a difficult time staying in the lineup at the NHL level in recent seasons. He'll most likely clear waivers and will provide the Devils with a depth option as they get closer to the playoffs.

As for Houser, he was with the Sabres last season of course but then re-signed an AHL only deal with the team this past offseason. So the Sabres singed him to an NHL deal today and subsequently were forced to put him on waivers due to the NHL's mid-season signing rules. It's expected that he'll ride the bench in Buffalo and give rookie Devon Levi some gametime in the AHL once his season ends with Northeaster in the NCAA. Then again, this could be a move that indicates Sabres GM Kevyn Adams has another trick up his sleeve. Could a goalie be on the move? The Sabres have been linked to Anaheim Ducks netminder John Gibson at certain points this season, but those rumors have cooled in recent weeks. Stay tuned.
