Auston Matthews holds all the cards. With a full no-movement clause in his contract, the Toronto Maple Leafs superstar can veto any trade, meaning any potential move depends entirely on his approval. But if the Leafs don’t meet his expectations over the next few years, sources suggest there are already two teams that could realistically land him.

According to Hockey Patrol, who gathered all of the information on a potential trade, Florida and Dallas both offer the combination of financial benefits, competitive windows, and personal connections that make them appealing to Matthews. Florida is a zero-tax state, has a competitive team even in a down year, and Matthews has a strong personal connection to Matthew Tkachuk, one of his close friends. Meanwhile, Dallas could become the surprise destination. Also a zero-tax state, the Stars can offer a competitive window potentially longer than Florida’s. Matthews would join teammates like Jake Oettinger, Thomas Harley, and be surrounded by talent such as Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston.

Reports indicate that Toronto would likely seek a significant haul in return, potentially including Jason Robertson, young prospects like Mavrik Bourque and Lian Bichsel, a first-round pick, and additional assets like Emil Hemming.

Ultimately, it all comes down to one question: which team can give Matthews the best shot at finally winning a Stanley Cup?

Whether it’s the Panthers or the Stars, his decision would shake the league and redefine the trade landscape in Toronto. And these rumours are not likely to quiet down, especially after Matthews was injured last night in a dirty knee-on-knee hit by Anaheim Ducks' Radko Gudas, which exposed how none of his current Maple Leafs' teammates right now are willing to step up and defend their captain...

That's a good incentive to want out...
