To many, the decision from the Vancouver Canucks to trade both veterans Alex Burrows and Jannik Hansen prior to the trade deadline signaled that the team is looking to sell off assets and build for the future.

Perhaps as a result of those decision, two of Vancouver's veterans were asked about the potential of a trade in the offseason during a radio interview today with TSN's 1040. Canuck Alex Edler sounded like he was annoyed when asked if he would be willing to waive his no trade.

“I don’t know,” Edler said as per NBC Sports. “You can ask me that question if they ask me. I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it.”

Another veteran defenseman who has often been the subject of trade chatter has been Chris Tanev, and he liked Edler has term remaining on his deal making him a particularly valuable asset. During the interview Tanev, who's trade protection only kicks in after the start of the season, admitted he was aware that a trade was a possibility.

“Right now, obviously me and Alex are happy to be here,” said Tanev. “(But) it’s a business. Anything can happen at any point. I think things happen when you’re usually not ready for them to happen.”

The Canucks have previously indicated that they feel they have enough depth to move a defender for help elsewhere, and both Edler and Tanev seem like the prime candidates for such a move.
