TRADE ALERT! But not so fast.. This is a new destination than first reported
Last week, it sounded like a Tyler Myers deal was set in stone. Reports had linked the Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings in what appeared to be a near-completed deal involving the veteran defenseman. Myers had been presented with a trade option and was taking time to evaluate it with his agent, J.P. Barry. The belief around the league was that Detroit was the destination.
Then reports emerged, like the one from Elliotte Friedman, that Vancouver may be trying to create more of a market for Myers. “I think they’re trying to give him some time to see if they can create another market, other teams, whether it be Dallas or Anaheim or something else,” Friedman said.
On Wednesday, Myers is getting moved to the Dallas Stars, per Darren Dreger.
According to Dreger's colleague Pierre LeBrun, the Stars are sending a second round pick in '27 and a fourth round pick in '29 to Vancouver in return, while the Canucks are retaining 50 percent on remainder of Myers contract which makes him a $1.5-million player this year and next.
VAN receives:
• 2nd-round pick (2027)
• 4th-round pick (2029)
DAL receives:
• Tyler Myers
Canucks retain 50% of the contract.
Myers has skated in pre-game warmups and participated in practice but hasn’t played since before the Olympic break.
Detroit’s reported offer of a second-round pick would represent solid value, but the Stars offered more. Dallas now have 6'8 Tyler Myers and 6'7 Lian Bichsel on their blue line.
Myers has appeared in 57 games this season for the Canucks and has a goal with seven assists. He was in his seventh season with Vancouver after joining the team as a free agent in 2019.
The Dallas Stars confirmed the transaction later Wednesday after the first report by Dreger.
