Tyson Jost blames the Wild for his failures in Minnesota.
The former first round pick speaks after being claimed.
It probably hasn't been the best time in the National Hockey League career of Tyson Jost as of late and on Monday the former first round pick opened up a little on the topic after he spoke to the Buffalo media after being claimed on waivers by the Buffalo Sabres.
Jost, who was selected in the first round (10th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, never really clicked with the Wild during his tenure there and it seems he blames most of that on the team itself. While Jost would admit that he never really found his rhythm in Minnesota, he also stated that it was due to the fact that the Wild are a team that currently has "a lot of people walking on eggshells," and that was something that made it difficult to find that rhythm.
That may very well be true but it's also fair to wonder how much the heartbreak of being traded to the Minnesota Wild last season may have impacted Jost's game. Jost would be traded to the Wild by the eventual Stanley Cup winners, the Colorado Avalanche and the 24 year old would admit on Monday that he hadn't watched the run that his former team and teammates went on last season. One that of course would eventually lead them to the prize that many hockey players, even those in the NHL, can only dream about.
"To watch them go on and win it, it's definitely tough," admitted Jost. "You kind of think 'I could have been there.'"
In total Jost would appear in 33 games for the Wild following the trade, scoring 2 goals and adding 7 assists for a total of 9 points over his tenure with the team.
He also shared some thoughts about joining his new team in Buffalo, and it sounds like Jost may welcome the fresh start elsewhere.
"There's a great young core here and a lot of great up and coming talent," said Jost of the Sabres. "Watching these guys play it's fun to watch. Their team is exciting. And they've got a really good thing going on here ... so I'm excited to be part of this group."
