Uglier details revealed about Darryl Sutter’s toxic relationship with his own players!

This is disturbing. How could he think he was acting like a head coach?

We all saw it coming. The divorce between the Calgary Flames and head coach Darryl Sutter at the end of the 2022-23 was expected, but what wasn’t was the drama that came along with it.

Earlier this summer, the Athletic reported that the Flames launched an internal investigation into Sutter after he allegedly made physical contact with a player during a game. The news came after many players commented on Sutter’s temper and questionable attitude throughout the campaign.

Then another bomb was dropped earlier this week when defenseman MacKenzie Weegar was interviewed on Missin’ Curfew and revealed that most players on the Flames’ roster got into shouting matches with Sutter, but no more than Mikael Backlund.

Backlund came out as one of the players hoping to be traded out of Calgary, and with what Weegar exposed, we can completely understand why.

According to Weegar, Sutter would press Backlund and he would give it back to him, engaging in lots of ‘F- you!’ back and forth.

Weegar added that he felt a change was definitely needed as things had gotten toxic in the dressing room, which felt disjointed.

The arrival of new GM Craig Conroy and head coach Ryan Huska is likely to improve the atmosphere in the room, though we hope it is not to late for Backlund, who remains on the trade market for now. And we totally get why after all this mess in Calgary this past season!
