A brutal court case has cost a National Hockey League forward nearly all of his salary.

According to a report from Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, roughly two years after the story of Jack Johnson's financial troubles came to light, he has finally settled with the majority of his creditors in bankruptcy court. Unfortunately for Johnson the outcome was not a favorable one.

Johnson who currently makes $5 million per season will forfeit nearly all of his salary as a result of the judge's ruling, and he will be obligated to do so for both this season and the next. As per the terms of the settlement Johnson will only retain $246,000 per season for "living expenses." It's likely that he will also lose a significant sum from his next contract as well.

From Portzline's report:

In addition, the four creditors will get 10 percent of Johnson’s future earnings if he signs a new NHL contract in 2018 that exceeds $4.5 million total over a three-year term, a virtual certainty given his age and status in the game. The defenseman's current deal with the Blue Jackets ends after the 2017-18 season.

Think that's bad? It still gets worse.

Johnson has at this point only settled with 6 of the 8 creditors in this case, which means he could still face more losses once those two claims are settled. We will stay on top of this story.
