It has only been 12 days since the shocking news that Pittsburgh Penguins star defenseman Kris Letang had suffered another stroke came to light, but now Letang is once again shocking hockey fans only for positive reasons this time.

In what seems like an unbelievable update, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan reported on Saturday that Letang is eligible to play this evening when the Penguins welcome the Buffalo Sabres to PPG Paints Arena. It is truly incredible that Letang has recovered enough to return to NHL hockey so shortly after going through such a terrifying episode, and it is a testament to both his toughness and his love of the game that he even has the desire to do so.

Letang had previously returned to practice earlier this week, but even with that added context a return so soon after a stroke is truly incredible stuff.

Letang is a hugely important piece of the Penguins lineup and his return would provide a big boost for the Penguins. Through 21 games this season Letang has 1 goal and 11 assists for a total of 12 points, and perhaps he will get to add to those totals later this evening.
