Undrafted Prospect Believes He's Got What It Takes

WHL Western Conference player of the year with the Victoria Royals Joe Hicketts might not necessarily be as big as you would hope a prospect to be, but he’s definitely left a lasting impression on the Detroit Red Wings since his 2014 invitation to training camp. An undrafted player, the 5’8” defenseman earned himself a three-year contract two years ago and intends on continuing to show what he’s capable of as he readies himself to start his first professional season with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

 

The 20-year-old has certainly caught Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill’s attention:

 

“He's not a real fast skater, he's not real big. But he's a hockey player through and through,” Blashill told MLive.com.
