Would you pull the trigger?
The Montreal Canadiens do not know what to do anymore with forward Jonathan Drouin, who clearly needs a change a scenery to get back on track. While his name has landed in trade circles for months now, the Habs have been unable to move due to different reasons (injuries, lack of contenders, his hefty contract)…
However, this did not stop reporter Kalisha Townsell Turnipseed of Zone Coverage from suggesting that the Minnesota Wild should go after Drouin and come to an agreement with the Canadiens to land the forward.
She is adamant Drouin could provide an offensive boost up front in Minnesota and reminds fans that Drouin was the third overall pick of the 2013 Draft behind Nathan MacKinnon and Aleksander Barkov. She also points to the forward’s notable stint with the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL, when he put up two impressive seasons of 105 and 108 points.
Townsell Turnipseed believes Drouin’s downfall was out of his control.
“Injuries and mental health have been the kryptonite of Drouin’s career. After three years of not blossoming as part of the Lightning’s core, the Bolts traded him to Montreal for Mikhail Sergachev. At the time, there were mixed reviews on the trade from Tampa’s side, but they wanted to load the blue line. It worked to perfection.”
On Drouin’s side, he failed to meet expectations in Montreal, however, he has shown potential and proved himself as a key asset in the postseason.
And so, should the Habs move Drouin to Minnesota? You must admit Townsell Turnipseed offers great points to get a trade going.
