We have an update.

Over the weekend a young Montreal Canadiens fan named Hunter had both the wonderful experience of a lifetime and a rather disappointing night when he decided to attend the game between his favorite team, the Canadiens, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. We are happy to report though that we now have an update on Hunter's situation.

Hunter was reportedly gifted a puck by the Canadiens forward Nick Suzuki prior to the start of the game but it appears that Hunter may have failed to catch the puck, causing it to strike him on his lip. It was enough of a shot to leave him with a bit of a swollen lip and, likely feeling bad for the poor kid, Suzuki would instead gift one of his sticks to young Hunter, autographed and all.

That should have been a pretty special moment for Hunter, and no doubt it still was, but it was one that would be cut short by staff at Scotiabank Arena who quickly swooped in to spoil the fun for the young Canadiens fan. According to Steven Beauparlant, Hunter's dad, the father and son were promptly asked to leave by the employees at the Maple Leafs home arena, being told that Hunter was not allowed to have a stick on the premises as it was considered a weapon. You would think that, given the context of the NHL hockey game happening at that very moment, there would be some leeway here, but unfortunately for Steven and Hunter it appears that was not the case.

Here's what Steven published on social media over the weekend:

"Thanks Nick for taking a selfie & making sure Hunter was ok after he didn’t catch the puck you tossed him," wrote Steven on his twitter. "He loves the stick, puck autograph & Fat Lip. A memory that will last a lifetime. Had to leave the game cause the stick wasn’t aloud."

Many who saw Steven's story were shocked that the Leafs and their parent company Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment would engage in such behavior, and as a result he was asked to confirm whether or not they had indeed been made to leave. The father would confirm that his son chose to keep the stick gifted to him by Suzuki, and therefore they were unable to stay for the game.

"Ya it was kinda brutal, they said it’s considered a weapon, poor kid had a busted lip and didn’t wanna lose his stick so we went back to hotel," wrote Steven.

Since our original article on this topic the Canadiens have responded to the story published online by Steven and have already reached out to him in an effort to make things right with the 2 Habs fans.

Here's the message the Canadiens sent to Steven:

Hello, we're glad to hear Hunter is doing well!

Our friends Tricolore Sports would like to send him a Nick Suzuki jersey! Could you please open your direct messages so we can get your contact information?

Thankfully this rather sad story for Hunter will have a happy ending.
