Update: John Tortorella serisouly injured after collision in practice.

John Tortorella was injured seriously yesterday.

The Columbus Blue Jackets head coach was hospitalized for 2 broke ribs. The Jackets were practising outdoor when winger Rene Bourque apparently hit a rut on the ice and collided with Tortorella, who fell heavily on the ice.

"I hit a rut. There's big rut in the ice, a hole, and I went down," Bourque said. "I fell into him and took his feet out. I didn't even see [Tortorella]. It happened so fast. I knew I hit something but I didn't have time to turn around and see him fall. I didn't know who I hit."

Torts walked the half-block back to the Nationwide arena, but around 1:00pm was transported via ambulance to the nearest Hospital.

Defenseman Seth Jones was close to Tortorella when it happened:

"It looked pretty nasty."

Nick Foligno commented his coach's fall and says that it represent well the luck the Jackets have had in recent years with injuries.

"We were out here to have fun and Bourque falls," Foligno said. "I feel so bad for John and Bourque. The funny thing about [Tortorella], he's tougher than all of us. If you see him down you know he's hurt. Now that [injuries] are going into our coaching staff, hopefully it's moved past our players."

John Tortorella is listed as day t today and will likely miss his team's game against the Boston Bruins.
