The “Farewell Season at the Joe” is underway as the Detroit Red Wings are set to face off against the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at the historical Joe Louis Arena.

As construction of the new Little Caesars Arena continues to progress and its completion remains on schedule in time for the 2017-2018 regular season start, the Red Wings’ players and staff got a chance to tour the new building yesterday.

The Joe Louis Arena has been home to the Red Wings since 1979, where they took home four Stanley Cup championships and have managed 25 consecutive playoff appearances. It also happens to be one of only three stadiums that does not have a name related to a corporate sponsor and is instead named after legendary boxer Joe Louis.
