The Pittsburgh Penguins are being extremely quiet regarding the health and status of Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and that usually is a very bad sign of things to come.

Crosby was injured on Saturday night when the Pittsburgh Penguins were facing off against the Chicago Blackhawks. Crosby was struck by a puck during the game's third period and he would immediately leave the game following the incident, never to return. The puck appeared to strike Crosby on that skate, specifically in the area of his toes, and many have suspected that this may be the source of his current injury. It has to be stated however that Crosby's legs also appeared to buckle awkwardly after he was struck by the shot and that could also have played a factor in how the Penguins superstar forward was injured over the weekend. All of that is of course speculation at this time however due to the fact that the Penguins have provided almost no information regarding his injury.

Since the injury happened on Saturday night both reporters and fans alike were expecting the Penguins to have a more detailed update on Crosby's status on Monday morning, but when pressed on the issue this morning Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan was not giving up any details. What was very concerning however was that Sullivan indicated that Crosby was still under evaluation 2 days after the initial injury, something that is usually not a very good sign at all.

"Right now all I know is he’s continuing to be evaluated and when I have further information I will let you know," said Sullivan when speaking to reporters on Monday.

The Penguins head coach was asked specifically if this could turn out to be a long term injury and he declined to answer that question as well, again another sign that this could turn out to be something very serious indeed for the Penguins. What Sullivan was able to confirm however was that Crosby would not be traveling with the team on their upcoming 2 game road trip, a sign that they expect him to be out for at least a week. The Penguins play both the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils on that road trip but the matchup against the Devils is not until this upcoming Friday. The fact that Crosby can already be ruled out of that game appears to be yet another indication that there may be some very bad news on the horizon.

Stay tuned as we will continue to bring you updates on this story as it develops.
