Krejci has been linked to the Bruins once again.
The Boston Bruins have made some significant moves ahead of the National Hockey League's trade deadline on Monday, but over the weekend there were rumblings of another big move that could be on the horizon.
It was National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman who hinted at the possibility that the Bruins could look to bring back veteran centerman David Krejci, with the move coming prior to the deadline following the conclusion of Krejci's season with Olomouc HC of the Czech League.
"Now I've asked about David Krejci," said Friedman on the most recent episode of his 32 Thoughts Podcast. "His season ended in the Czech league the other day, could he come back? So far I don't really have a clear answer on it and he's gotta clear waivers, so that's a tricky one too."
Unfortunately for fans who were hoping to see Krejci make a return to the Bruins ahead of the Stanley Cup playoffs it would appear that now we do have a clear answer. The update comes to us courtesy of Bruins reporter Fluto Shinzawa, who on Sunday has reported that Krejci is "not an option" for the Bruins at this time. It would appear as though that is a decision motivated by Krejci himself, with Shinzawa reporting that the former Bruin will be staying in Czechia, otherwise known as the Czech Republic.
Even if the Bruins had been able to bring Krejci in there was no guarantee that he would have actually made it onto their roster. Friedman reported that there were rumblings that other teams around the league, most notably Bruins rivals the Montreal Canadiens, could make things difficult for the Bruins if they went down this path.
"Someone asked me, could say Arizona or Montreal pick him up on waivers and then trade him to Boston?" said Friedman. "Everybody is all over this situation watching for any kind of circumvention to block it. I love these creative ideas but I've already had teams saying there's no way that's going to be allowed to happen."
The Bruins will have to find another way to bolster their roster up the middle if they wish to do so before Monday's trade deadline.
