Update on William Nylander after getting injured by Nick Robertson in preseason game
The latest from head coach Craig Berube:
Toronto Maple Leafs star forward William Nylander did not return to the prseason game against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday after exiting with a head injury. He did not return to the contest for what the team called precautionary reasons.
During the first period of the contest, Nylander fell and hit his head on Habs’ Christian Dvorak’s knee as teammate Nick Robertson attempted pushed him with his stick into the zone, which knocked him off balance. Nylander remained down initially before leaving the ice under his own power and heading straight to the dressing room.
Robertson might have injured his teammate, but he was able to be forgiven when he scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over the Canadiens. What made it even better was the update from head coach Craig Berube after the contest as the bench boss explained there was nothing to worry about when it comes to Nylander, per David Alter.
“He’ll be fine. Nothing to worry about.”
This is a great update for Nylander, who had a standout year with Toronto last season, taking part in all 82 regular season games and finishing with 40 goals and 58 assists for 98 points. He also added three goals in four games in the playoffs.
However, when it comes to the head and perhaps concussion issues, the team and player need to be careful and I am assuming this is something the Maple Leafs will follow closely ahead of the 2024-25 season.
