Yes! Finally!

Look, I'm not going to get into politics but suffice it to say that I'm not exactly in agreement with everything U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration are up to these days.

BUT... today's news from the House Judiciary Committee gives me a bit of hope.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican representative, is requesting voluntary briefings from NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB concerning blackout exemptions. Jordan contends that broadcast distribution and the rise of streaming internet services has outpaced Sports Broadcasting Act’s antitrust framework and that broadcast blackouts must be eliminated.

Here's the thing...

Do I like this? Yes, certainly. Blackouts are an outdated business practice in 2025.

Do I think anything will change? Nope.

Jordan is calling for VOLUNTARY briefings from these leagues. There's about a 0.1% chance that they follow through on the request. To me, this reeks of simply a token gesture from Jordan. I don't suspect that this initiative will make any change to hockey broadcasts as we know it.

Just more performative nonsense from the people we elect...
