USA Hockey scrambling to contact parents of athletes coached by Brad Aldrich
The fallout from the controversy continues.
The identity of the former Chicago Blackhawks player who brought to light explosive sexual assault allegations against the team has been revealed as Kyle Beach, a 2008 Draft selection who suffered abuse at the hands of then-video coach Brad Aldrich during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The full details of the report that was released late last month have resulted in the resignations of general manager Stan Bowman and senior director of hockey administration Al MacIsaac. Former Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville stepped down from his post as head coach of the then-undefeated Florida Panthers. Additionally, the team was fined $2 million by the NHL.
Prior to his having been hired by the Blackhawks, Aldrich served as one of the U-14 coaches at a USA Hockey camp in Rochester, NY in the summer of 2008. And Team USA is working overtime right now to contact the families of the players who may have been in contact with Aldrich.
“We are in the process of collecting the contact information for all of the family members of players who attended camps where Brad Aldrich coached,” USA Hockey spokesman Dave Fischer said in a brief phone interview.
An ex-high school hockey player sued the Blackhawks earlier this year for allegedly providing a positive job reference letter to Aldrich despite knowing that he was a sexual predator. The unnamed player, referred to in the suit as "John Doe 2", alleges that as a 16 year old high school athlete in Houghton, Mich., he was sexually abused by Aldrich, who was serving as an assistant coach.
Aldrich, who is now a registered sex offender in the state of Michigan, also worked for the University of Notre Dame hockey program from 2006 to 2008.
