Utah accidentally leaks their new nickname on official social media account

Some poor social media intern is getting canned for this!

Trevor Connors

About a month ago there were reports that Utah Hockey Club had reportedly chosen its new nickname.

Today, it appears as if the team has inadvertently leaked the name to the public.

The name?

Drum roll please....

The Utah Mammoth!

The team updated their YouTube channel name from "UtahHockeyClub" to "UtahMammoth".

According to a report from Dennis Dodd of CBS, sources have informed him that the Utah Hockey Club has indeed chosen a new nickname, although Dodd did not provide any information on the name itself.

Of course fans and pundits alike have been scrambling in an attempt to try and figure out the name since the news was broken by Dodd, and it seems that some believe they have indeed cracked that code.

Basketball John, founder of SLC Dunk a site that covers the NBA's Utah Jazz, points out on social media that, of the 3 names that fans had a chance to vote on Utah HC, Outlaws and Mammoth, only the application for the Mammoth trademark has received an extension.

This would of course appear to be pointing the finger directly at Mammoth as the most likely candidate for the team's new nickname, but it is important to remember that this is merely a clue. Teams will often use misdirection in situations like these to throw fans off the scent, so best to wait for an official announcement before getting too excited or disappointed.

Would you be happy with the decision if Mammoth turned out to be the team's new name? Is it a suitable replacement for the Yeti name that the team was reportedly looking at originally? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
