Utah group reveals survey to name NHL team and some suggestions are eye-popping!

On Wednesday night, Smith Entertainment Group revealed the anticipated survey to name Utah’s National Hockey League franchise. It kicks off with a naming bracket as the first round of voting will be open through May 22. Fans can select up to four nicknames during the initial round of the survey.
As insider Chris Johnston points out, the new team in Salt Lake City will only wear “UTAH” across its sweater for the inaugural season and SEG will unveil the name and branding before the 2025-26 season.
Here are the 20 potential nicknames under consideration for the future via a fan vote :

- Utah Glaciers
- Utah Canyons
- Utah Blizzard
- Utah Ice
Back in April, Ryan Smith acquired the franchise and almost immediately detailed the process for choosing the team’s nickname. On the Pat McAfee Show, he revealed how fans would be voting for the franchise’ nickname a bracket that would begin with eight nicknames and be trimmed down until the eventual winning name is decided.
“We’re gonna take this down from like eight all the way down and the fans are gonna vote for this,” Smith detailed.
In KSL Sports’ unofficial nickname poll, Utah Yetis was the running away winner with 32.3 percent of the vote.
Multiple trademarks were filed anonymously with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including Utah Blizzard, Utah Venom, Utah Fury, Utah HC, Utah Hockey Club, Utah Yetis , Utah Outlaws, and more.
