Utah HC scores first goal in franchise history. (for real)
The Utah Hockey Club scored their first goal that wasn't in their own net on Sunday night.
The Utah Hockey Club has its first ever National Hockey League goal... and this time it is for real.
Things got off to a rough start for Utah in their first ever NHL preseason game, with the first goal in franchise history being a rather embarrassing one. Although it won't go down in the record books, the first goal scored by a Utah player actually was one scored into their own net.
To their credit the players shook off their shaky start and made up for it when a defensive breakdown from the St. Louis blues resulted in a 2-0 for the Utah Hockey Club.
It would be undrafted forward Michael Carcone who would pick up the first ever goal in franchise history and he will go down in the record books, although this was a preseason exhibition game.
There were a series of passes, and not the cleanest passes you'll ever see, between Ben McCartney and the aforementioned Carcone with it looking at one point like neither man wanted to take the shot. Carcone would eventually let his shot rip however and it found the back of the net for the first NHL goal in franchise history.
Carcone seemed pumped and was clearly pointing at McCartney to make sure his teammate got his flowers for the role he played in the team's first goal.
Perhaps the most notable part of this play was the sheer amount of time the Blues gave them to set up the goal, check it out in the replay below.
