Utica Comets continue their feud with Habs rookie Cole Caufield.
The Comets social media team was at it again.
It may have rubbed some fans the wrong way initially, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying the ongoing feud between Montreal Canadiens rookie forward Cole Caufield, and American Hockey League franchise the Utica Comets. For those of you unfamiliar with the Comets, they are the AHL affiliate team of the New Jersey Devils.
The feud began last week when the Comets social media team decided to take a shot at the Canadiens forward after his stint in the National Hockey League was cut short this season when the Canadiens made the move to send him down to the AHL. The shot came during a game between the Comets and the Laval Rocket, the AHL affiliate team of the Montreal Canadiens, and all things considered it was pretty tame.
There was a lot of hype surrounding Caufield's presence at the game, and with him failing to get on the scoreboard in the early stages of the game the Comets social media team played off of that.
The tweet was enough to ruffle some feathers though and as a result it was quickly deleted by the Comets social media team. On Saturday however the two sides faced off again and the Comets did not hesitate to bring the matter back to the forefront. They did so with a very clever tweet that was a not so subtle reference to their earlier tweet about Caufield, one that featured none other than Bart Simpson:
The Comets social media team would stay true to their word by going out of their way to be extra nice to the Rocket players throughout the game, even going so far as to compliment the opposition when recapping goals scored by their team. It was a clever way to poke fun at the Rocket without directly doing so, and it made the whole thing rather amusing.
The Comets even joked that they would no longer be reading any of their messages after Caufield himself scored to tie the game.
The undefeated Comets did have to sweat it out during the game however, the Rocket managed to take the lead at one point but in the end the Comets remained unblemished, rallying back in the third to win the whole thing.
