Veteran Defenseman Carson Soucy Agrees To A PTO.

The National Hockey League regular season is rapidly approaching and that means unrestricted free agents that were previously hoping to secure contracts in free agency may now have to settle for tryout offers.

Over the weekend we saw a number of professional tryout offers (PTO) handed out around the NHL and that trend continued on Sunday with veteran defenseman Carson Soucy becoming the latest player to agree to a PTO. In Soucy's case, he will be joining the Columbus Blue Jackets for training camp and the preseason with the hopes of securing a contract from the Blue Jackets or any other NHL team that may be on the lookout for blue line depth.

Soucy split last season between the New York Islanders and New York Rangers, appearing in 76 games and scoring 5 goals, adding 7 assists, for a total of 12 points on the season.

Soucy brings with him a wealth of experience as a veteran of over 440 NHL games throughout his career, one who has played under a variety of systems between the aforementioned Islanders and Rangers as well as the Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Kraken and Minnesota Wild.

Prior to becoming an unrestricted free agent earlier this summer, Soucy was on a 3 year contract with an average annual value and salary cap hit of $3.5 million per season.
