Veteran defenseman reportedly wants to return to Chicago.

This is a particularly interesting development, and one that could prove highly beneficial for the Chicago Blackhawks.

According to a report from Blackhawks insider Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune, a source has informed him that veteran defenseman Brian Campbell is hopeful about a potential return to Chicago through free agency. If Campbell were to come to Chicago with their current cap situation, it would require him signing at a significant discount.

Despite being 37 years old Campbell is coming off one of the best statistical seasons of his NHL career and has continued to demonstrate that he is a valuable asset on the blue line. There were reports that the Panthers would look to retain him and in fact negotiations had taken place over the past several weeks, but he now seems destined for free agency.
